Commitment to achieving Net Zero

H LS McConnell Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: May 2021
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.

McConnell Group has measured and reported carbon emissions since 2021. The data for the emissions sources required by PPN06/21 has been drawn out from this verified data set.

McConnell Group has set a target to reduce emissions by 70% by 2030 against a 2021 baseline, and achieve Net Zero by 2040, which our approach is compliant with.

The Group target is a similar scope of emissions as required by PPN06/21.

Baseline year emissions:

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero by 2040, we have adopted the carbon reduction targets overleaf.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 2221 tCO2e by 2026. This is a reduction of 45%.
Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and initiatives will be completed and implemented from the 2021 baseline. The carbon emission reduction achieved by these initiatives equates to Tbc tCO2e, a Tbc %ge reduction against the 2021 baseline and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract:

  • Emissions from buildings, which will be reduced through a combination of measures including the implementation of a PIR System and replacement LED lighting program
  • Meetings via Microsoft Teams/ZOOM etc will take precedent over face-to-face meetings.
  • Maintain ISO:14001 accreditation
  • We are a member of the Supply Chain Sustainability School and carbon management programme
  • Bronze Level of Zero Waste Scotland’s Resource Efficiency Pledge
  • Promotion of our ‘Think Local’ approach where we support local economies, reduce carbon emissions and overall carbon footprint by sourcing/buying/using local for products/materials/suppliers/subcontractors.

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

  • Staff travel emissions will be reduced significantly following the introduction of a Sustainable Travel Policy instilling behavioural change relating to business travel, commuting, parking and more sustainable modes of travel
  • Achieving Silver, Gold, Platinum Levels of Zero Waste Scotland’s Resource Efficiency Pledge
  • Fleet Emissions from core fleet (vehicles owned by McConnell’s), will be reduced through a replacement program with the electrification of cars and vans
  • Flexible working policy
  • Implementation of zero waste strategy
  • Roll out of carbon training
